Impure Sequence

An impure sequence is a group where three or more cards are grouped in a sequence and one of the cards is replaced by a joker. An impure sequence can be either with a printed joker or a wild card joker.

What are Sets?

In addition to sequences, players can arrange their cards in sets as well. A set is a group of three or four cards that are of the same rank but belong to different suits. In rummy, no set can have more than four cards. Players can also use either a printed joker or a wild joker to complete their sets.

1. Valid Sets

A valid set includes at least 3 cards of the same rank and different suits. You can also use both types of jokers in a set. However, a set cannot have 2 cards of the same suit, so you can form a set with a maximum of 4 cards.

Types of Jokers in Rummy

Jokers are some of the most critical cards in a rummy game. You can use them to create impure sequences and to form sets as well. There are two types of jokers in an online rummy game.

1. Wild Joker

A wild joker is a card that is randomly picked at the beginning of the game. This card is picked by the dealer and becomes a wild joker; all the other cards of the same rank also become wild jokers as well.

Valid and Invalid Declaration in Rummy

When you have all the cards arranged according to the rules of rummy, you have to make a declaration and show your cards to your opponents in order to rummy. But you will only be declared the winner when your declaration is valid. Listed below are the criteria for a valid declaration.

Valid Declaration

To make a valid declaration in a rummy game online, you must meld all your 13 cards in valid sequences and sets. After arranging cards in valid groups, you must click on “Finish” and declare your hand. For a valid declaration you must fulfill these three conditions:

One Pure Sequence: You need at least one pure sequence in order to make a declaration and win a rummy game. A pure sequence is when you have three or more consecutive cards of the same suit.

A Second Sequence: According to rummy card rules, you need at least two sequences to make a valid declaration. So in addition to a pure sequence, you must also form a second sequence to declare your hand. The second sequence could be either a pure or impure sequence.

Invalid Declaration

If all the conditions are not fulfilled and you make a declaration, it becomes an invalid declaration. An invalid declaration will make you lose to your opponent by the biggest margin possible. How To Play a Rummy Card Game?

The value of the first three combinations is zero. However, there are 4 more cards that are ungrouped. Thus, the rummy point scoring will be done on the basis of the four ungrouped cards.

In this specific case, the ungrouped cards are  K , Q, A♣, and 2♣. Here K , Q, and A♣ are worth 10 points each, and 2♣ is worth 2 points. So, the penalty calculation will be

10 (K ) + 10 (Q) + 10 (A♣) + 2 (2♣) = 32 points
