Poker Starting Hands A9 ,A2

Texas Holdem – How to Play Ace-Rag

An ace dealt with cards lower than 10 is popularly called Ace-Rag in the poker game. Thus we have A-9, A-8, A-7, A-6, A-5, A-4, A-3 and A-2 as the Ace rags which can be played similarly. Seeing an ace as your starting poker hands is always good but when you get a low kicker then caution should be observed as any other over-kicker can dismantle you.

Just play from position

Ace rags can be played from late position when unsuited and from middle position when suited. But if you are raised out of position then it is best to stay away from the pot. If calling a raise, then never wait beyond the flop. Of course, when you call a raise, you are over estimating your poker hand and hoping to flop your Ace pair. But the problem is there might be someone else (who raised pre-flop) who could be holding an ace with a bigger kicker. Thus always stick to simple calling when facing a low kicker in online poker.

Should you fold?

Another poker strategy that many poker pro’s swear by is folding Ace rags. It is always argues that ace with a small kicker will never get you a big pot thus it is best to avoid getting into a game with them. So it depends upon the player how he wants to pursue the quest of ace-rag.

When Played at Adda52

At the 7th April Saturday finals of online poker at Adda52, an interesting duel happened when Hkhurana was the shortest stack on the table and also in position. He went all in with his extremely small stack when he saw Ah 8S. He was called by mihir2700 with Jd 6h who was the chip leader. 4h 9H Ac was the flop which gave Hkhurana a lucky top pair. The turn was 5h which gave both flush draw and Nut flush draw to Hkhurana. The river was 6c and a pair for mihir2700 but Hkhurana had doubled up to stay on the table with 10 big blinds. Thus sometimes when short stack and in position, it is a good poker tip to go all in.
