Biography
Martin Jacobson is a Swedish professional poker player. He is known for winning the 2014 WSOP. He won the main event and took $10,000,000 home, the fifth-largest single payout in tournament history.
Background
Martin Jacobson was born in Stockholm, Sweden, on June 30, 1987. He dreamed of becoming a chef and even studied at a culinary school. He worked on a Swedish Royal Navy ship. He started playing poker in high school. At first, it was just a fun hobby, and he played online in internet cafes. But as he continued playing, he started getting better and became more serious about the game. His background in cooking taught him discipline and patience, skills that later helped him in poker too. Even though he started with a different dream, his passion for poker slowly took over. He eventually won a seat at the 2008 WSOP in Las Vegas.
Martin Jacobson's Poker Career
In 2008, Martin finished third in the European Poker Tour, his first live cash. He made three final tables in season 7 of the EPT. In 2009, he finished second in Venice's World Poker Tour event. In the 2013 WSOP, he finished sixth in the Big One for One Drop High Rollers event and won his most significant tournament cash of $807,000.
He has over 16 career World Series of Poker (WSOP) cashes and five final tables. In the 2014 WSOP, he ended day 1A as the chip leader and entered the November Nine, eventually winning the title.
He is a member of Raising for Effective Giving. In this Effective altruistic organisation, poker players donate at least 2% of their tournament winnings and 3% of their profit from cash games every quarter.
In 2015, the Swedish publication Poker.se named Player of the Year. Three years later, he joined 888 Poker as their brand ambassador.
