Peter Nicolas Eastgate is a professional poker player from Denmark. He is best known for winning the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event, becoming the youngest player to do so. In 2009, Joe Cada surpassed him to become the youngest player to win the WSOP.

Background

Peter Nicolas Eastgate was born on 13 December 1985. He was raised in Dalum, a suburb of Odense, Denmark. He joined the SCT. Canute's Gymnasium, where he was introduced to poker by his classmates. He attended Aarhus University to study economics, but dropped out to pursue a career in poker.

World Series of Poker

Eastgate qualified for the Main Event through the Ladbrokes Poker website and travelled to Las Vegas as part of the team. He reached the final table. Eastgate and Demidov reached the final table heads-up of the 2008 World Series of Poker(WSOP), and Eastgate won the game and took $9,152,416 home.

He was 22 when he won the WSOP Main Event, making him the youngest player to do so. He surpassed Phil Hellmuth, who was 24 when he won in 1989.

In 2009, he defended his Main Event title for 6 days, but eventually finished 78th and got eliminated.

Prior to WSOP, Eastgate’s tournament results include a money finish in the 2008 European Poker Tour Event in Copenhagen and a final table finish at the 2007 Irish Poker Open. He won $46,714, his most significant win in the 2007 Irish Poker Open. He cashed in the European Poker Tour (EPT) PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) Main Event and won the $5,000 side event, taking $343,00 home. He finished second in the 2009 London EPT, taking £530,000, and in 2010, he finished 5th in the NBC National Heads-up championship in Las Vegas, taking $75,000 home.
