Steven Silverman is an American professional poker player. He is known for winning the Poker Tour High Roller and the 2013 World Poker Tour Alpha8.
Background
Steven Silverman was born in Derwood, Maryland, on June 10, 1988. He grew up with his elder brother and lives in Washington, D.C. He started studying mathematics at the University of Maryland, but dropped out. He later retired and finished his degree in biochemistry and nutritional science.
Steven Silverman's Poker Career
Steven Silverman learned poker at a summer camp when he was 14 and started playing online poker. After dropping out of college, he began playing local cash games with Greg Merson. He occasionally visited the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York, where he met and befriended several young poker players, such as Christian Harder and Randal Flowers.
He made his first cash finish in a live tournament in mid-October 2007, and from September 2006 to May 2015, he played on the online poker platforms such as PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, Bodog, UltimateBet and Absolute Poker. He used to play with the nickname Zugwat and made over $ 1.5 million.
In November 2007, he finished tenth in the World Poker Tour (WPT) Main Event and won 65,000 Canadian dollars. In May 2008, he finished third in the Latin American Poker Tour Main Event in San José and took $100,000 home. The following year, he finished twelfth in the European Poker Tour (EPT) Main Event in Monte Carlo and won 97,000 euros. In 2012, he successfully reached the In the Money (ITM) at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino. He then finished third and reached the final table in the Pot Limit Omaha, winning $300,000. In May 2013, he won the EPT High Roller and won his highest prize to date of 775,000 euros. In August 2013, he won the WPT Alpha8 event in Hollywood, Florida and took $900,000 home.
