The Basics of Rummy

Table of contents

We love the game of Rummy. It is fun, entertaining, challenging, and highly rewarding. The game is available in 13 Cards and 21 Cards variations online.

How To Play Rummy

You receive a specific number of cards as per the variant (13 cards or 21 cards).

Cards are ranked from low to high – Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, and King.

You need to arrange the dealt cards in valid sets and sequences by picking and discarding cards from two piles.

One pile is closed (un-dealt) and one is open (made of discarded cards).

On your turn to act, you have to pick the top card from the open or closed pile and discard one card.

A sequence is a group of 3-4 consecutive cards of the same suit

A set is a group of 3-4 cards of the same rank but different suits.

Sequences and sets can be pure (without Joker card) or impure (with Joker card). In an impure sequence/set, a Joker card can be used as a replacement of a missing card.

To declare, you need to discard one unneeded card after arranging all your cards.

If the declaration is right, you become the winner.
