Phil Hellmuth - Poker Player

Phil Hellmuth (full name is Phillip Jerome Hellmuth Jr.) is a professional poker player who has created history by becoming the youngest poker player (at 24) to win the World Series of Poker (WSOP). His wins and phenomenal approaches brought him respect as a pro-poker player in the world of poker. Born on July 16, 1964 in Wisconsin, United States, he has won 11 bracelets in the Main Event of the  WSOP. Interestingly, Phil Hellmuth held the record for the youngest winner for 19 years. He has other amazing records to his credit as well – 68 cashes in various World Series and the maximum final tables at 41.

Personal Life

Personal life of Phil Hellmuth is fascinating. His father was the dean at the University of Wisconsin, from where  he dropped out after some years..He started playing poker at home with family and also at University. He would travel to Las Vegas, play and come back to build his bankroll by working at the farms. He now resides in the fascinating city Palo Alto, CA, with his wife and two sons.

Tournaments

Phil Hellmuth has created a series of records in various tournaments. In the All Time Money List, Phil ranks fourth and his live tournament prize money  exceeds the whopping amount of $13,000,000.

Phil’s victory includes 7 Main Event cashes (1988, 1989, 1997, 2001, 2003, 2008, 2009) lacking a slight position behind the legendary poker players Doyle Brunson, Berry Johnston and Bobby Baldwin.

Remarkably, Phil won the bracelets by playing the intriguing card game Texas hold'em. But he has also achieved victory in the non-hold'em events. In the 2011 World Series, he participated in 45 tables out of which were Omaha hold’em, Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo, 2-7 Lowball apart from the other mixed games such as H.O.R.S.E and the much popular Poker Players Championship.

In the 2006 World Series of Poker, Phil Hellmuth won his historic 10th WSOP bracelet in which it tied him for most of the bracelets with much admired poker players Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson. His wining continued with the capture of his 11th bracelet in the 2007 World Series of Poker.

In the 2011 WSOP, despite his phenomenal playing approaches he only managed to finish 2nd in three tournaments, in the Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8, 2-7 Draw Lowball Championship and The Poker Player's Championship eight-game mix.

Phil Hellmuth, however, has not been able to win a title in the World Poker Tour (WPT) tournament irrespective of his effort that he has been able to make till the four final tables and cashed 13 times in the main WPT events.

Phil Hellmuth is known as a ‘poker brat’ because of his temperament. But at the same time he is also known as for his philanthropy and his entrepreneurship.

Hellmuth was actively involved in creating the software for Ultimate Bet. Apart from this, he has also made numerous instructional videos for enthusiastic poker players and also contributed many articles for several poker books and Cardplayer magazines. “Deal Me In” is his latest book that comprises of 20 chapters each dedicated to one of the top 20 poker players in the world.
